Tesco: Britons could see empty shelves as workers plan to strike days before Christmas

Christmas could be highly affected if Tesco‘s warehouse workers and HGV drivers go on strike later this month.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We have worked hard to deliver Christmas for our customers and are confident we will be able to fulfil our plans.

“We welcome the decision by our colleagues at the sites who have voted against industrial action.

“We are disappointed that some have voted to proceed, and we have contingency plans in place to help mitigate any impacts.”

The strike is set to start on December 20 when most online orders are supposed to be shipped out to arrive in time for Christmas.

Workers are planning to strike for five consecutive days.

Some stores across the UK will also be affected as the trade union plans to take action at fives sites at least.

Tesco in Livingston, as well as the stores in Didcot, Doncaster, Antrim and Belfast, will be affected.

The Tesco spokesperson explained: “Our distribution colleagues have worked tirelessly through the pandemic in order to keep products moving for customers.

“The pay offer we have made is a fair recognition of this.

“And is one of the highest awards made within our distribution business in the last 25 years, building on our highly competitive pay and rewards package.”
