Kate broke tradition five times during wedding – but most unexpected on wedding night

The Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear her hair down for her wedding day. That is something that hadn’t been done in 350 years.

However, she went even further as she chose to do her own makeup instead of having professionals in.

The Duchess reportedly wanted Prince William to see her how she normally looks while walking down the aisle.

According to the documentary William & Kate: The Journey, the mother-of-three was highly encouraged by other royals to wear her hair up but she wasn’t convinced.

Royal expert Ashley Pearson commented about Kate wanting to keep her locks down: “Royal sources tell me that the royals indicated very strongly to Kate that they would prefer her to wear her hair up for this very special occasion.

“However, Kate had her heart set on wearing her hair down with long flowing curls, which is her favourite way to wear it, and actually William’s favourite as well.

“They ended up compromising on her look.”

Pippa Middleton and Prince Harry were also elected Maid of Honour and Best Man, two roles that don’t exist in royal weddings.

One of the most surprising things Kate wanted to change had to do with her sister Pippa Matthews, and her dress.

DON’T MISS

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a beautiful Alexander McQueen dress.

For her sister Pippa, however, she chose a Sarah Burton gown which was very similar to her own dress.

Pippa was in fact matching Kate.

The gown, white in colour, featured a lace on the neckline and buttons down the back.

They actually spent their wedding night at Buckingham Palace enjoying a quiet first night as man and wife.

In fact, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge didn’t actually jet off on their honeymoon until 10 days later.

The couple went on an incredible trip to the Seychelles where they stayed on a private island.
