Canadian rock princess Lavigne is due to release her latest album, Love Sux, at the end of this month on February 25. The singer recently revealed that her new record will be leaning into the heavier side of music for the first time in her career. While she has always had an edge to her sound, Love Sux will be the first album that truly takes place within the rock space. She has now revealed that change is all thanks to having the right producers. 

Lavigne recently explained the “biggest hurdle” in creating Love Sux was finding a “good producer”. Now, she has teamed up with producer, John Feldman, who the star described as a breath of fresh air for her music. The 37-year-old said: “When I met John Feldman, I was like: ‘Where have you been in the last 10 years!?’ Finding him and working with people like [Blink-182 drummer] Travis Barker, who has evolved so much musically to writing and producing. I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time.” (Via Fault)

She added that these artists have helped her release the music she has always wanted while hitting out at those who came before Feldman.

Lavigne scolded: “They are musicians that really understood me and my style and where I come from, as opposed to some random pop producer trying to do something edgy.” She added that has “honestly been a challenge I’ve come up against in my career”.

Lavigne previously released a string of pop-rock albums that have only had touches of rock and punk music ingrained within them. It sounds like, finally, she has gotten what she really wanted with Love Sux.

And this isn’t the first time Lavigne has explained how she has had to fight for her right to play the music she wanted.

Lavigne said in her Fault interview: “I change my mind a lot. I think that has something to do with being a Libra. Everyone that works with me makes fun of me because of it but on the other hand, it keeps everyone on their toes.” She added: “I’m very exciting.”

Unfortunately, she hit her fans with some not-so-exciting news this week.

Lavigne recently postponed her UK and European tour dates, which were due to celebrate Love Sux’s release. The tour, which was originally planned for 2019, has now been pushed to 2023.

She told her fans: “It really breaks my heart to have to do this, but I know it will be worth the wait. The tour is now rescheduled for April-May 2023. All existing tickets are valid for the new dates.”
