Melania Trump news: Donald Trump’s wife wears black amid coronavirus fears

[ad_1]

Melania Trump opted for a conservative look as she attended the International Women of Courage (IWOC) Awards today. Ditching her signature fitted dress, she wore an oversized black frock with long sleeves. It was her first public appearance since Donald Trump, 73, announced plans for US travel bans due to coronavirus fears.

The dress cut off at her knees and she braved the cold by keeping her legs bare.

She wore her highlighted brown hair styled into a bouncy blow-dry that sat on her shoulders.

Melania’s make-up was simple and she wore dark eyeshadow with a nude lipstick.

The US First Lady attended the IWOC Awards that are held every year and gave out prizes to the 12 winners.

DON’T MISS

The ceremony recognises women from around the world who have shown leadership, courage and resourcefulness with a focus on promoting women’s rights.

She stepped out without her husband, Donald Trump, who has recently been speaking on the action plan against coronavirus.

Earlier this week, Donald suggested new travel restrictions for those traveling to the US from China and Iran.

The President explained he was looking into more bans “from certain countries where they’re having more of a breakout”.

As well as handing out awards at the event, Melania made a speech for the guests.

Last week, she wore another black number and recycled a sleeveless utility dress first seen in 2018.

It had large pockets at the front and pulled in at the waist.

Melania Trump: Five facts about the USA’s First Lady

Languages

Mum-of-one Melania can speak more languages than any other First Lady before her: English, French, German, Italian, Serbian and of course her mother tongue, Slovenian.

This also makes her the only First Lady whose first language is not English.

After Jacqueline Kennedy, Melania is the second First Lady who is a practising Catholic.

She met Pope Francis as part of a foreign tour with her husband and stepdaughter Ivanka last year.

Career

Melania was a successful model, posing for Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and GQ.

Her skills aren’t confined to print, and she appeared in a commercial for Aflac, an American insurance company, in 2005.

Family

Melania’s parents are Amalija Knavs and Viktor Knavs, and the couple live together in Washington.

She has one sister, Ines, who is reported to live in New York and work as an artist.

Charity

On May 7 2018, Melania launched her flagship campaign as First Lady, BE BEST, which The White House describes as “an awareness campaign focused entirely around the well-being of children”.

There are three main strands to the initiative: well-being, social media, and opioid abuse.
