Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams appeared on Channel 5’s “Royals: A Family in Crisis” documentary to dissect the last few years of Royal Family life. He claimed the lack of independence the Cambridges and Sussexes, once dubbed the “Fab Four”, had during their time living together would inevitably drive a wedge between them.

Speaking on the documentary Mr Fitzwilliams said: “The whole idea of the ‘Fab Four’ was completely impractical because if you marry into a family and live next-door to your inlaws and you inhabit the same offices and you use the same charity then there is not very much left for independence.”

The film then cut to an awkward moment where the Fab Four are seen at a charity event together on behalf of their original royal foundation as a team.

In the footage, Prince William was asked whether the Fab Four have disagreements.

In a rare insight into the rift between the royal brothers, the Duke of Cambridge simply replied: “Oh yes.”

After the clip aired Mr Fitzwilliams went on to claim the Queen would find it difficult to appreciate how Harry had changed since beginning his relationship with Meghan. 

He said: “I think one of the problems with William and Kate and Harry and Meghan is not only are their futures totally different but also their personalities, as couples are very, very different.

“And Harry has certainly changed.

“And I think the Queen will have found this something very difficult for her to appreciate.”

Tomorrow Meghan and Harry will be seen with Kate and William for the first time in public since the Duke and Duchess announced plans to step down as senior royals, citing concerns over privacy and wanting to forge a path of financial independence.

Harry and Meghan will join the entire Royal Family at the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey.

And as of March 31, they will no longer be working members of the Royal Family.

The issue of funding for the couple’s security has been a subject of contention, as the British public question if they should pay for the Duke and Duchess’s protection overseas.

Addressing the matter of security, Meghan and Harry said on their website: “It is agreed that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to require effective security to protect them and their son.

“This is based on The Duke’s public profile by virtue of being born into The Royal Family, his military service, the Duchess’ own independent profile, and the shared threat and risk level documented specifically over the last few years.”
