“He’s not just going to let a game pass away and talk about it after, he wants to affect it there and then. He’s so passionate about winning and he knows his football, he knows his stuff.

“He watches every single game there is on TV, especially the big games and if you ask him, ‘Did you watch that last night?’ he’s always seen the game. He’s going to make the most of his career, that’s for sure.”

Speaking earlier this week, Portugal international Fernandes made it clear that he is not concerned about the physical or mental demands of leading United’s title charge.

The Red Devils have not won the league since Sir Alex Ferguson retired with United as champions in 2013.

The attacking midfielder said: “Tired? I’m 26 years old so I can’t be tired. If I’m tired now, when I arrive at 30, 32, I will not play. I will play one game in five so, no, I’m not tired.”

Fernandes also added of his winning mentality: “I don’t conform with [the idea that] losing games is normal stuff. For me, losing is not normal so my mentality comes from that, you know?

“I always was like this. I don’t like to lose, so maybe the mentality is more like I don’t like to lose.

“Also playing whatever it is, when I was playing with my friends, my brother, my neighbours, I never wanted to lose, I want to win every time. This mentality will be with me for the rest of my life, I think.
