Lewis Hamilton was once again booed by Max Verstappen fans during his post-qualifying interview at the Dutch Grand Prix. The Brit was unable to set a faster lap time than his Red Bull rival and he will start Sunday’s race from second place.

Verstappen set the fastest time in FP3 and Q3 to ensure he starts his home Grand Prix from the front of the grid.

The 23-year-old’s Championship contender Hamilton will join him on the front row.

And Verstappen fans tried to put off the seven-time world champion by booing him during his public interview.

“So close, so close,” Hamilton started, before his answer was interrupted by the boos.

“First I just want to say a big thank you to all the Dutch fans here. What an amazing venue and what an amazing track.

“I really do appreciate the welcome, there are some great sporting fans here.”

Hamilton talked up Verstappen’s performance during the remainder of his interview and he was applauded.

“What an amazing day, what an amazing track,” he added. “Max did an amazing lap, I was trying to catch him, but I gave it absolutely everything. But he did an amazing lap and deserves pole.

“It is a difficult circuit to overtake, but what a place for us to be racing.

“I think strategy will come into it a lot. I haven’t seen a crowd like this for a while, I hope the track provides us with a very good race.”
