Man Utd’s treble aim unveiled by Luke Shaw as Man City and Liverpool title duel plotted | Football | Sport

United have found their feet in recent months after an initially poor start to the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side were languishing in mid table at the start of December, but nine wins from their last thirteen league outings have propelled them into contention for English football’s most prestigious honour alongside the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Shaw has played a huge part in the club’s return to form, playing 90 minutes in six of his side’s last nine matches.

Despite a lacklustre defeat at the hands of bottom club Sheffield United on Thursday, for which Shaw was dropped for Alex Telles, the 25-year-old has backed the Red Devils to achieve great things this season, declaring that their current side is the best that he has ever been a part of.

“Of course the league is a target, with the position we’re in,” Shaw told Beyond The Pitch. “The most important thing now is to bounce back after that poor result [on Thursday] and show people we’re still in that fight.

“We’re second and we feel we’ve got the belief and confidence that, if we can get a good run going again, then we can be fighting for the title at the end of the season.

“We’re still in the FA Cup and Europa League. We want to be winning titles and trophies and feel we have a massive chance to win all three.

“Ever since I’ve been an United there’ve been unbelievable players. Now we have a great group of players, but I think we’ve also got a massive belief that we’re going places and improving as a team and we feel like we can win things.

“Credit to the manager with the players he has brought in, each player that has come in has played a big part in pushing United forward and it feels different now.

DON’T MISS

“There’s just a different feeling now, that confidence and belief is back and that we can actually start challenging for titles.”

Shaw appears to have flourished under Solskjaer’s guidance after struggling at times during Jose Mourinho‘s reign.

The charismatic Portuguese boss publicly criticised Shaw on a number of occasions during his time at United, famously claiming that he was making every decision for him during a Premier League game against Everton three years ago.

The defender has praised Solskjaer’s management style, admitting that he is taking the club further than Mourinho did during his two-and-a-half-year spell in Manchester.

“I’ve got confidence now, the manager believes in me of course, and the team’s doing well,” said Shaw.

“Of course, they’re two very different managers. Obviously Jose was more experienced, had different ways of coaching, the way we played and the man-management side.

“Ole is, I wouldn’t say new, but has less experience than Jose in his managerial career. He worked under a wonderful manager in Fergie and maybe took ideas in terms of the way he approached things.

“The way he goes about things, day in, day out, I really feel like he’s getting the best out of the players and at times, maybe before, that wasn’t happening.”
