Christian Eriksen has FaceTimed his Denmark team-mates to tell them that they can play on after huge scares rankled through the footballing world on Saturday afternoon. The Inter Milan star collapsed on the pitch as the Danish faced Finland at Euro 2020.

Eriksen FaceTimed his Denmark pals from his hospital bed and asked them to play tonight.

It comes as the Danish resume their match against Finland on Saturday night after initially being suspended following the harrowing scenes earlier in the day.

The football world was stunned when Eriksen collapsed on the pitch in the Euro 2020 opener for his country.

Around the 40-minute mark as play resumed from a throw-in, the Inter Milan star fell to the ground with referee Anthony Taylor immediately requesting medical assistance.

The 29-year-old received CPR as the Danish players formed a wall around him to give him some privacy before being stretchered off after 13 minutes on the pitch.

He was immediately taken to hospital in Copenhagen before news broke that the ex-Tottenham star was awake and stable.

And Eriksen has gone one better – even speaking to his Denmark buddies and telling them to continue the match, according to Sport1, via Fabrizio Romano.

They have adhered to his wish and the game has continued from the 40th minute despite the players being obviously shaken up.

As the BBC cameras cut from the ground at Copenhagen and returned to the studio, Gary Lineker, Alex Scott, Micah Richards and Cesc Fabregas were all terrified over what they had just watched.

The Match of the Day presenter said: “Well that’s one of the most distressing scenes I think I’ve ever seen at any football match.

“Christian Eriksen falling to the ground, his teammates surrounding him clearly distraught.

“Football truly put into perspective. I think the only thing I can think of remotely like that was Fabrice Muamba.

“He pulled through, let’s hope Christian pulls through as well. So distressing.”
