Tottenham have had a bid for Cristian Romero worth around £43million accepted by Atalanta and the player is now on the verge of joining Spurs after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.

Fabio Paratici has been a key driving force behind Spurs’ interest.

Romero is a player he previously signed while working upstairs at Juventus and the centre-back is now regarded as one of the best in Serie A.

Now he looks set to move to the Premier League though after Tottenham finally made the breakthrough during negotiations.

Paratici has been locked in talks with Atalanta for well over 10 days now in an attempt to strike an agreement.

Spurs are also set to hand him a five-year contract upon his arrival in England.

The player opted to tell Atalanta that he wanted out on Monday as the club continued to hold firm in talks with Atalanta.

It has now led them to accepting Tottenham’s latest bid and a deal is now edging closer to completion.

Tottenham are still looking to add another centre-back to their squad following the departure of Toby Alderweireld to Qatari side Al-Duhail.

Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu is also a potential option once he returns from the Olympics.

Tottenham’s most recent offer has put Bologna under serious pressure given that it fell just short of their asking price.

Tomiyasu can also play at right-back and Spurs are also looking for extra quality in that department.

Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic is also on the club’s radar.
