Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp teases transfers before window shuts – ‘Might be something’ | Football | Sport

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he is ‘very happy’ with his current Liverpool squad but suggested that the Reds could dip back into the transfer market before this month’s deadline. The Merseyside outfit have only signed defender Ibrahima Konate since the beginning of the summer window, with the Frenchman joining the club from RB Leipzig back in May.

Liverpool activated Konate’s £34million release clause in order to bring him to Anfield and provide some much-needed strength in depth at the back.

However, the six-time European champions are yet to follow up with any further additions.

When quizzed on his side’s transfer activity following the 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao on Sunday afternoon, Klopp revealed that he is satisfied with the current crop but hinted that improvements could still be made throughout the remaining weeks of the summer window.

“I am very happy with the squad I have,” said the Liverpool boss.

“You can’t sign counter-pressing, the atmosphere, our anthem… There are different approaches out there but we have no influence on that.

“There might still be something happening before the end of the transfer window.”

Klopp went on to sing the praises of young midfielder Harvey Elliott, who has impressed for Liverpool during pre-season after a successful loan spell with Blackburn Rovers last time around.

The Reds manager highlighted the teenager’s strong performances as living proof that big-money moves are not always the answer when it comes to finding new solutions.

“We have a new midfielder in our squad in Harvey Elliott,” continued Klopp.

“We have players who can make a big step. We are not blind. We see what others are doing.

“We just have to be able to beat them. We will try to do that.

“Harvey can play different positions. In pre-season we wanted to see him in a deeper role. He’s made a big step in the pre-season.

“If he stays fit then the football world can be really excited about that. I really liked his performance and attitude in pre-season.”

Klopp was speaking after Liverpool were held to a pre-season friendly draw by La Liga heavyweights Bilbao, who avoided defeat at Anfield thanks to Alejandro Berenguer’s second-half equaliser.

The Reds took an early lead through Diogo Jota but were unable to maintain their advantage until the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Andy Robertson was forced off shortly before half-time with an ankle injury, leaving Klopp to sweat over the potential severity of the 27-year-old’s issue.

It remains to be seen whether the Scot will be passed fit to feature against Norwich City in Liverpool’s first Premier League match of the season on Saturday.
