Chelsea transfer news: Abraham ‘flies to Rome’ to complete £34m transfer to Roma | Football | Sport

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is flying to Rome today to complete his transfer to Jose Mourinho’s Roma, according to reports.

Abraham has fallen out of favour under Blues boss Thomas Tuchel and has sought a fresh start, agreeing to join the Serie A side in a £34million deal.

Tuchel used the England forward just seven times after replacing Frank Lampard in January.

Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud and even Kai Havertz have often been preferred ahead of Abraham as the focal point of Chelsea’s attack.

Abraham scored 12 times last term but 11 of those came in the first half of the season under Lampard.

Tuchel made signing an elite striker his top priority this summer after his side frequently misfired last term, despite their Champions League success.

Midfielder Jorginho was the club’s highest Premier League scorer, although all seven of his goals were penalties.

Tuchel has conceded that he should shoulder some of the blame for the highly rated Abraham’s departure.

“He did some good preparation matches, he was clearly not happy with the last half a year and maybe he has reason not to be,” Tuchel said after a 2-2 pre-season draw with Tottenham

“Maybe it was also my fault not to push him or trust him, I can absolutely understand that he wants more minutes.”

Abraham was an unused substitute as Chelsea started their Premier League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace.

Marcos Alonso opened the scoring with a stunning free kick.

Christian Pulisic then doubled their advantage with a tap-in after Vicente Guaita parried Mason Mount’s shot.

Trevoh Chalobah then scored a dream top-flight debut goal to cap off a big win.

The 22-year-old strode forward and let fly from 25 yards, with the ball going in via the post.

Chalobah was handed a start by Tuchel following an impressive pre-season campaign.
