Manchester United have put Kylian Mbappe on a list of four potential replacements for Edinson Cavani, reports say. The Uruguay international is expected to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of the campaign. And his former Paris Saint-Germain team-mate is being eyed as a result.
Manchester United had originally expected Cavani to leave this summer, with the 34-year-old previously targeting a return to South America with Boca Juniors.
However, after ending last season in fine form, the veteran then decided to stay at Old Trafford for another 12 months.
United know they can’t rely on Cavani forever, however, with the Uruguay international entering the twilight years of his glittering career.
And ESPN say the Red Devils are interested in signing Mbappe from PSG as a potential replacement, with the forward’s future at the Parc des Princes currently uncertain.
Mbappe has been at the club ever since moving from Monaco back in the summer transfer window of 2017.
He originally joined on loan before moving on a permanent basis for a massive £166million the following year.

United are long-term admirers of Harry Kane.
Though Manchester City seem likelier to land the Tottenham star, the Red Devils may make an approach if he stays in north London for another year.
Obviously, Erling Haaland features on the list.
The Norway international rebuffed the Red Devils for Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window of 2020 but, despite that, interest remains.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer previously managed the striker at Molde in Norway and United are hopeful their close bond can work in their favour.
And Lautaro Martinez is also in their sights, too.
Martinez has been linked with both Tottenham and Arsenal, with Inter Milan open to selling yet another big name.
But, providing he stays at the San Siro for another 12 months, United could strike a deal for the Argentina international instead.
Former United star Louis Saha previously urged his old side to go after Mbappe, meanwhile, saying: “If you ask me, I would break the bank for Mbappe, but now it’s too late.
“But, when you look at strikers, it’s a dying breed.
“[Robert] Lewandowski is a rare example of someone who is left, and I don’t see many players that can easily fit up front.
“I had views on some strikers like [Atalanta’s] Duvan Zapata who I think is a decent player, very strong.
“There is a need for somebody up front who is strong enough to hold the ball and to give time and space to the players like Paul Pogba and [Scott] McTominay to create something in midfield to put passes together.”
Solskjaer, meanwhile, feels any more signings this summer would be a ‘bonus’.
“Anything from now is a bonus,” said the 48-year-old.
“I have to say that with the two signings we’ve got, we’ve strengthened where we wanted to strengthen.
“Let’s see what happens. You never know in football. Anything can happen, ins and outs.”
