The Simpsons fans are getting an extra treat this Easter weekend with the arrival of a brand new short film on Disney+. Maggie Simpson (voiced by Nancy Cartwright) is the star of the show in Playdate with Destiny, which will land on the streaming service tomorrow.

The Simpsons creator Matt Groening shared the good news with fans on Instagram.

In a handwritten note, he said: “Greetings, friends! Earlier this year we made a nifty little short film called ‘Playdate with Destiny’.

“The response was so gratifying we wanted everyone to see it at home,” he added. “So here ya go — stream it starting April 10th on Disney+!

“Your pals, Matt & Jim & Al & Matt & David & a buncha hard-working animators, man,”(sic) Groening signed off his message to fans.

The Simpsons short originally aired in cinemas before screenings of Disney’s Onward.

It begins like any other day in Springfield but ushers in an exciting new adventure for young Maggie.

When she faced playground peril, a heroic young baby whisks her from danger — and steals her heart.

The synopsis reads: “After a blissful first playdate, Maggie can’t wait to see her new baby beau again the following day, but things don’t go exactly as planned.  Will fate (or Homer) get in her way?”

The Simpsons was created by Groening back in 1989 and since debuting that year over 600 episodes have been broad cast.

It is the longest-running American sitcom and primitive TV series.

In 2007, The Simpsons Movie was released and a sequel was announced in 2018.

The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and features a floating timeline, exploring the trials and tribulations of the Simpson family, Homer (Dan Castellaneta), Marge (Julie Kavner), Bart (Nancy Cartwright), Lisa (Yeardley Smith) and Maggie.

Elsewhere, Disney+ is host to a ton of other family-friendly movies to get stuck into this Easter holiday.

Animations like Tangled, Frozen, Monsters University and the Toy Stories films are all present.

If that wasn’t enough, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also available on the streaming service.

On top of that, subscribers can watch every episodic Star Wars movie from A New Hope to The Last Jedi.
