Troy Deeney slams Premier League plan during Piers Morgan chat on Good Morning Britain | Football | Sport

Watford star Troy Deeney blasted the Premier League’s plan to restart the season next month as he believes the air of uncertainty is causing confusion amongst the country’s best footballers.

There is still no definitive date in which players are expected to return to training or resume matches.

Concern is also rife over the impact coronavirus has on BAME athletes and the lack of knowledge of how contracting COVID-19 will impact long-term health.

Therefore, Deeney is worried about returning to action without full clarification of potential implications and he did not hold back while speaking to Piers Morgan.

“I think the concern is very much that phases two [full contact training] and three [playing matches] have not been clearly laid out,” Deeney said on Good Morning Britain.

“There’s been a lot of, what I would class as very simple questions, that haven’t been answered.

“There’s a bigger question to be had here morally as well,” he added.

“We see a lot about care workers and key workers not getting tested and people dying in nursing homes, and things of that nature.

“Yet we’re expected to have just short of 3,500 tests per month as football players and PPE for all the staff.

“How long will be until that’s the players’ fault? Look at these prima donna footballers that are getting all this preferential treatment when there’s people dying on the street.”

And Morgan agreed with the striker as he thinks the club owners should face the criticism.

The presenter said: “It won’t be the owners who get hammered for that, it’ll be the  players who will be told: ‘You’re being selfish, you’re not essential workers. Why is everyone around these football matches getting PPE?’ I totally agree with you.”
