Liverpool have been backed to sign Caglar Soyuncu and the deal could be on due to the nature of Brendan Rodgers, in the view of pundit Noel Whelan. The Turkish international has been a prominent figure in Leicester’s march towards Champions League qualification and has earned rave reviews for his colossal performances at the back.

Soyuncu’s future at the King Power Stadium looked bleak last summer when his entourage held talks about leaving the club.

Shortly after, Harry Maguire moved to Manchester United for £80million in a world-record deal for a defender and Leicester did not have time to sign a replacement.

Luckily for them, Soyuncu stepped up to the plate and is now a fan favourite in the East Midlands.

The player’s former agent Mustafa Dogru recently claimed in AS that Liverpool are the only Premier League team capable of signing the defender.

“I think he would fit into that mould. He covers the ground well, is dangerous from set-pieces and is good with the ball at his feet.

“Brendan Rodgers will desperately want to keep him though. But when clubs like that come calling it is very difficult to turn down big money as a club and very difficult to turn the opportunity down as a player.

“I think Rodgers is the sort of manager that will realise that these transfers do not come around very often. He is a fair guy and I do not think he would hold him back from joining a club where he can challenge for honours.”

Liverpool are unlikely to be in the market for a centre-back this summer.
