Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is supportive of N’Golo Kante’s decision to miss training due to the midfielder’s health concerns about coronavirus.
Kante was granted compassionate leave on Wednesday – the second day of the club’s return to training in phase one.
The World Cup winner reported for practice on Tuesday but opted to sit out of the following day because of health fears. He has lingering worries about returning to action while COVID-19 fatality rates remain high. The death total in the United Kingdom rose by 363 to 35,704 on Wednesday.
Kante had a health scare in March 2018 when he passed out in the dressing room at Chelsea’s training ground. While cardiology tests did not show any issues, he was forced to sit out the team’s subsequent match.
The Frenchman also suffered family tragedy before that summer’s World Cup when his older brother Niama passed away after suffering a heart attack.
Statistics also show that BAME citizens in the UK are nearly twice as likely to die from COVID-19 as white people.

“My son is only five months old, he had breathing difficulties, so I don’t want to come home to put him in more danger.”
Kante’s Chelsea team-mate Tammy Abraham will play if the season resumes but he recently revealed that his father suffers from asthma.
Abraham, who lives with his family, said: “My dad has asthma, so if I was to return to the Premier League and, God forbid, I do catch this disease and bring it home it’s the worst thing possible.
“The last thing I need is to catch the virus myself or be in contact with anyone with the virus.”
Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi also missed training on Wednesday due to illness, according to the Daily Telegraph.
