Chelsea boss Frank Lampard blames two players for first-half West Brom capitulation | Football | Sport

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes Marcos Alonso and Thiago Silva were at fault for his side’s embarrassing first-half capitulation against West Brom. The Blues found themselves 3-0 down in the first half an hour but fought back after the break to secure a point with a spirited comeback.

Goals from Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham secured a point for Chelsea but Lampard admits it feels like two points dropped due to the manor of the first-half display.

Chelsea started the game brightly and could have easily taken the lead through Abraham or Timo Werner, who hit the bar.

Callum Robinson struck a sweet opener for the Baggies after Marcos Alonso gave away the ball cheaply.

The former Sheffield United man, who scored against Chelsea for the Blades last season, then doubled his tally after capitalising on a rare mistake from Premier League debutant Thiago Silva.

“Then Marcos loses his man for the third goal from the corner. Clear mistakes so you can do as many meetings as you want, if you make those mistakes you give yourselves a mountain to climb.”

Chelsea have now taken just four points from their opening three Premier League matches.

More will be expected of Lampard given the Chelsea boss has spent £222million on transfer this summer.

“It’s two points lost. That’s no disrespect to West Brom,” he added.
