“I remember the stories my family would tell me about watching him play. His legacy will always remain!”
Norman Whiteside wrote: “RIP Nobby Stiles a fantastic footballer but more importantly a lovely man.”
John Giles, who was close friends with Stiles and became his brother-in-law later in life when Stiles married his sister, gave an interview to Off The Ball and discussed the United hero’s relationship with Sir Bobby Charlton.
He said: “Bobby loved Nobby. Nobby could do things on the pitch that Nobby used to envy. Bobby wasn’t a hard nut, he was the best player I ever played with and played against. But he wasn’t a hard nut. Nobby could do things Bobby would have loved to do – tackle, win the ball, be tough, all those things.
