Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken out after his side’s 2-1 Premier League win over Fulham. Ademola Lookman fired the Cottagers in front early on at Craven Cottage, hitting the ball powerfully past David De Gea. But goals from Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba gave the Red Devils all three points.

United weren’t at their best against Fulham.

But they picked up all three points regardless, leapfrogging Manchester City at the top of the table following their 2-0 victory over Manchester City earlier in the day.

Pogba’s sublime second-half strike made the difference for United and, speaking after the game, Solskjaer hailed the midfielder for his fine performance.

“I think we started slow but after their goal I felt we played well. We needed to wake up and after that we played really well,” he said.

“We don’t do offsides really, we should follow the run. We had not woken up but good reaction.

“Fantastic goal by Paul and we had some other chances to finish the game but of course when it is just one goal and the players they put on it is going to be like heart in your mouth.

“He [Paul Pogba] has really come on. He is fit, he can play in midfield and he can play wide.

“That is key with Paul, getting him match fit and running fit and he is at the moment. He played very well.”

United are now top of the table.

But Solskjaer is STILL refusing to say his side are in contention for the title, adding: “It is always going to be talked about that when you are halfway through and top of the league but we are not thinking about this.

“We just have to go one game at a time. It is such an unpredictable season.”

Pogba himself was delighted after the game.

“It’s a big win because it was a hard game,” he said.

“We knew it would be difficult. They press really well and stay compact. We had to come back and we needed this win and we got it.

“I hit the ball well. I didn’t expect it with the left foot like this but if you don’t try, then you don’t score.

“It was a beautiful goal and a beautiful win. It wasn’t my favourite goal ever but it was still beautiful.

“I was really mad after the Liverpool game for not scoring the chance. I maybe should’ve done better but today it went in.

“Most important was the win today. We did it the hard way and did it the beautiful way.

“No we didn’t know about the Manchester City result, we just knew we had to get our result. I love winning, it’s all about winning. I’m happy when we win on the pitch and angry when we lose.

“It’s the Premier League so it will be always be hard. We have to do us and that’s it.”

Meanwhile, Fulham boss Scott Parker said: “We came up short in the end but overall I thought we were superb. Big chances are the fine margins of this league.

“I am disappointed because stand here and I feel we should have got something from the game. We showed our real quality today, which is pleasing.

“In the second half we had some big opportunities. I am disappointed and I suppose it shows how far we have come. It is something to keep working on. We are looking more solid as a team.

“The equaliser came out of nothing and someone like Paul Pogba possesses that sort of quality. The resigning factor for me was the big chances that went for us probably needed to go in.

“I think we have played six of the seven best teams in the league recently and we have gone toe to toe. From now on we need to go on and pick up some points.”
