United needed 120 minutes to get past West Ham on Tuesday, Scott McTominay’s strike in the first period of extra time eventually separating the sides.

And Maguire admitted extra minutes were “not ideal” given the congested fixture list it was worth it to be in the hat for the next round.

No outfield player has played more minutes than the United skipper this season with Maguire’s onfield time breaking the 3,000-minute barrier, nearly five and a half hours more than the next busiest, teammate Aaron Wan-Bissaka on 2,723.

With England duty added in Maguire has played a staggering 3,346 minutes of competitive action this season, but the central defender is not complaining.

“We have a little break now before the next game,” he said of four days of downtime before the trip to West Brom on Sunday.

“Well, it feels like a break It is quite long given what it has been like this season.”
