Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends strong title warning to Man City | Football | Sport

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists his side will not let Manchester City run away with the Premier League title this season. United are seven points behind leaders City having played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s team. The Red Devils could only draw 1-1 at relegation-threatened West Brom on Sunday.

United have won just one of their last five league matches.

But Solskjaer says his players should receive praise for getting the club into the position they are in the table.

And he has warned City they will not have an easy ride for the remainder of the campaign.

“I said we shouldn’t be talked about [in the title race],” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“As an ex-striker I’d say that was a goal,” Solskjaer said.

“But in a recent game Harry [Maguire] got on top of a defender and that was no goal. It’s just clarity and consistency. I’m not saying that’s a foul.

“The goal we scored is the way we put pressure on them. We did get down the sides sometimes but didn’t have anybody to tap them in. One of these days we weren’t there where we should have been.

“We should play better but we gave ourselves a tough start. You have 90 minutes to make amends but we didn’t build that momentum until late in the first half.”

Meanwhile, United captain Harry Maguire insists his side are still in the title race despite not picking up all three points.

“Of course we are. We’ve got to look after ourselves,” Maguire said.

“We’ve got to go again and then win the next one and then win the next one.

“Obviously Manchester City are on a great run at the moment, they’ve created a points gap.

“We’ve got to look after ourselves, we’ve got to fight for every game.

“It’s disappointing today, we’ve come here, we were in a good mood, good confidence, good preparation, we’ve had five days to prepare which feels long in this season.

“It’s disappointing because we’ve got to take the big moments. Going behind we’ve shot ourselves in the foot and made it difficult for ourselves.”
