Tottenham news: Erik ten Hag meeting scheduled as Ajax boss makes decision on future | Football | Sport

Tottenham have reportedly scheduled a meeting with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who is now amongst the favourites to replace Jose Mourinho. The Dutchman is a man in demand due to the work he has carried out in Amsterdam, which has seen him create not one but two successful Ajax teams.

Ten Hag is on course to win his second Eredivisie title this season having already secured the KNVB Cup.

And it could be the perfect way to sign off from Ajax after nearly four years at the helm.

The 51-year-old has been linked with a host of jobs in the past few weeks, including Bayern Munich.

He was amongst the club’s back-up options if they failed to convince Julian Nagelsmann to move to the Allianz Arena.

The club failed to twist the arm of Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, who has decided to stay at the King Power Stadium.

Now Ten Hag is on Spurs’ radar and his style is deemed the perfect fit for Tottenham.

The board want to appoint a manager who plays possession-based attacking football and Ajax do exactly that.

Not only that, but Ten Hag also has a track record developing young players in Amsterdam.

The likes of Perr Schurrs, Ryan Granvenberch, Brian Brobbey and Lassina Traore have all become first-team regulars under his leadership after coming through the academy ranks.

Levy was first alerted to Ten Hag when Tottenham crossed paths with his Ajax side in the 2018/19 Champions League semi-finals.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side broke Ajax hearts in Amsterdam in the second leg courtesy of Lucas Moura’s dramatic last-gasp winner.

Spurs chief Levy will be hopeful that Ten Hag does not hold grudges when the pair sit down to discuss the Tottenham hot-seat in the near future…
