Manchester United could conclude a transfer deal for Bruno Fernandes today, according to reports in Portugal. Express Sport reported yesterday that the clubs had finally made positive strides during a second round of negotiations and now it looks like the final details are being ironed out.

Last weekend there had been an element of doubt over the deal, with the clubs remaining far apart on their valuation.

Sporting were continuing to demand £50million up front, something that United were simply not prepared to do.

Now it appears there has been some compromise from both parties, with Fernandes personally pushing his current club towards a transfer.

According to the January 22 edition of Lisbon-based paper A Bola, the deal could be closed today after more negotiations have taken place.

United intend to pay £46m upfront with an additional £8.5m in bonuses to seal a deal.

United were said to be in the race for Fernandes last summer, but never made an official move.

The club later claimed that most of the noise surrounding a potential move for the Sporting captain was coming from Portugal.

Tottenham were the closest to prising him away from Lisbon last summer, after having a bid rejected.

Yet this time around United have been very open about the pursuit of the midfielder as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his options with a marquee signing.

Earlier this month Solskjaer travelled to Lisbon with Mike Phelan to watch Fernandes in action against Fernandes.

Upon his return to England he informed Ed Woodward that he would like to bring Fernandes to the club.

The club were threatening to walk away from the deal but after losing Marcus Rashford to injury for up to three months, United were given an extra incentive to conclude the deal.

Fernandes wants the move and has let his feelings be known for Sporting while he awaits a positive outcome.
