Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp’s dream Gini Wijnaldum replacement ‘confirmed’ | Football | Sport

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed his dream target to replace Georginio Wijnaldum this summer. The Dutchman left Anfield after his contract expired to join Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain this transfer window.
Klopp is ready to move for his dream replacement for Wijnaldum, who has left for Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The Dutchman saw his contract expire this month after five years at Liverpool and has decided to leave with interest in his services high.
Barcelona were the favourites to sign the midfielder with Ronald Koeman knowing him well through his time as Netherlands manager.
But the Catalan club’s manager must be absolutely fuming after a late move from PSG saw Wijnaldum turn his back on the Nou Camp and sign for the Parc des Princes instead.
And if Barca felt hard done by, imagine Liverpool’s thoughts after losing such a key player for nothing.
Wijnaldum will be difficult to replace after playing every Premier League match last season.
But Klopp has one man in mind, who would be his absolute dream to come and fill his boots – Borussia Monchengladbach star Florian Neuhaus.
The Germany international is remarkably similar to Wijnaldum and could fulfil his duties for the Reds if he arrived this summer.
And according to Sport1, Neuhaus is Klopp’s ‘dream’ replacement – but could end up costing over €40m.
With the midfielder currently with the Germany squad for the Euros, any talks would most likely take place after the competition.
But whether Liverpool are willing to spend that kind of money on one player remains to be seen after already splashing £35m on Ibrahima Konate.
Meanwhile, Klopp has insisted transfers are at the back of his mind ahead of the summer window.
He said: “We did what we did in the past the way we did it. When there was money, we spent it. When there was no money, we didn’t spend it. And here we are. That’s how it is.
“There’s a moment in pre-season where I hope we have the team together that will go through the season. We are working for that.

“We want to be a really uncomfortable opponent, that’s the most important thing. We might not be the best team in the world at the start of the season, but we want to be again the team who nobody wants to play against because we are that good. I think that’s possible.”
