Prince Charles provokes furious fan reaction on anniversary of Diana’s death – ‘Horses?’ | Royal | News

Tuesday was the 24th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana, the mother of William and Harry. The People’s Princess was tragically killed in a car accident in Paris along with her then fiancé Dodi Al-Fayed on August 31, 1997. The couple had been trying to escape the attention of the paparazzi, when their driver, Henri Paul, lost control of the car they were travelling in, and crashed in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel.

The Duke of Cornwall decided to post two messages to his official Twitter Account on the anniversary of the accident.

One thanked people for coming to visit Clarence House, while the other showed pictures of the Horse Corridor and asked fans how many horses they could spot there.

However, many believed the posts were inappropriate, given the significance of the day.

Furious royal fans took to Twitter to express their anger in no uncertain terms.

One wrote: “24 years today Diana,Princess of Wales died. She has two children for you and you are asking people to count horses today of all days.

“Have you called your sons to see how they are doing or is counting horses more important? #RIPDiana”

Royal fans wishing to pay their respects to Princess Diana were granted special access to the recently unveiled statue at Kensington Palace.

The public was given a two hour window to visit the memorial situated in the Palace’s sunken Gardens.

Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) announced last week “we will be opening that up, freely available, for passers-by or anybody who wants to stop and take a moment on that Tuesday, specially for the anniversary.”
