Liverpool backed to smash Arsenal’s invincibles record and win Premier League unbeaten | Football | Sport

Liverpool have the ability to not just win the Premier League title, but to go the whole season unbeaten – therefore beating Arsenal’s record of consecutive games without defeat. That’s according to the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer.

Liverpool ground out a result against Norwich on Saturday.

The Reds extended their lead at the top of the table to 25 points ahead of Manchester City – who have a game in hand.

They now need just five more wins – at most – to win their maiden Premier League crown.

Sadio Mane marked his return from a hamstring injury by scoring the winner at Carrow Road.

The win meant their unbeaten run extended to 43 league games without defeat, and they now have a good chance of beating Arsenal’s record.

The Gunners went 49 games without defeat when they won the Premier League in 2003-04, a run of games which spilled into the 2004-05 season.

But depending on how the upcoming weeks go, Liverpool will win the league against Crystal Palace, before taking on Manchester City to equal the record.

They will then have the chance to beat the record against relegation-threatened Aston Villa, before attempting to see out the season unbeaten.
