Striker Wilson, 22, has joined the Championship play-off hopefuls for the remainder of the season after recovering from a serious knee injury.

The Biddulph-born ace was seen as one of United’s hottest prospects when he bagged a brace on his debut in May 2014.

But he has not played first-team football since damaging his anterior cruciate ligament while on loan with in October 2016.

Wilson said: “Obviously, a lot has happened since I made my debut. It’s just getting it back on track now.

“It was a big back step as far as my career is concerned but I’m back on the up now so hopefully this will help me jumpstart my career.

“It’s tough for me to see [other academy prospects break through at United], especially when I’ve been out injured, and think it could have been me.

“I shouldn’t dwell on it. It’s tough to see that but I’m confident I can make something out of this.”

The Blades boast the Championship’s top scorer – Leon Clarke – in their ranks so Wilson faces a challenge to break into Chris Wilder’s team.

But the former England Under-21 international is looking forward to the challenge on offer at Bramall Lane.

“It’s really good to be here at ,” he said. “Hopefully the opportunities will come and with the clientele we’ve got it’s a great opportunity for the club and for myself.

“I’m very confident in [my knee] now, there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s as strong as it was.

“On a personal level, I think it’s a good thing for me to get out and play games and test it out.”
